Going Green

It’s great to be green and at the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce we’ve recognized that being environmentally appropriate is important to our members.  We established a GreenLife committee, comprised of eco and health friendly business professionals, which hosts quarterly educational breakfast seminars; Green Moments, which spotlight an eco business at each membership meeting, and established a Green Aisle at our trade show which won a Green Achievement Award in 2007.

Dedicated Green, is a monthly column in our newsletter, Chamberviews, which features ideas, tips, internet links, upcoming events and other information to help businesses, as well as community members, live a greener lifestyle which not only benefits the bottom line and the environment, but personal health and wellness, too. If anyone is interested in adding their name to the GreenLife roster, please email sfields@gsdcc.org.

Central Hudson, Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber and Red Cedar Landscaping Help Beautify Children’s Home Campus

In honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. partnered with the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce and Red Cedar Arborists & Landscapers, Inc. to beautify The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie campus with a flowering crab apple tree, April 23.

Paul Tesoro from Central Hudson was present with Ann Meagher, GSDCC president, and others from the Chamber, the Town of Poughkeepsie and the County Legislature to acknowledge all that The Children’s Home has done in and for the community over its 163-year history.  Ted Rathjen of Red Cedar Arborists, who donated the tree and his labor, talked of how important trees are to our environment and demonstrated the proper way of planting a tree.

Children’s Home Executive Director Walter Joseph noted that, “The crab apple will grow and provide a very attractive point of interest on the campus. It will also give those in the new Young Mothers Program cottage across the street, something lovely to look at,” he added.

Representing the GSDCC GreenLife Committee at the tree planting ceremony were members Randy Humphrey and Erica Yohe of Spotless Home & Biz and Paul Ellis of Ellis and Associates Ameriprise Financial Services, as well as Central Hudson’s Tesoro.
